Good to know before and after restoration

A few simple steps avoid making the damage worse before restoration.

Before restoration

  • Do not throw the piece away, even if it is badly damaged.
  • Do not glue it yourself: the wrong glue makes the restoration harder.
  • Collect all the fragments, including the smallest ones.
  • Wrap each fragment separately in tissue paper, then in bubble wrap.
  • Cushion everything for transport, for example in a box lined with padding.

Once the fragments are packed, send a photo of the piece for an estimate: see quote and timing.

After restoration

A restored piece is kept for its aesthetic qualities. It cannot be used for food purposes.

Two earthenware pots

  • An old white earthenware pot with a blue fleur-de-lis and blue borders, showing a few cracks and chips.
    Quimper pot, cracked and chipped
  • A white earthenware cachepot with a Chinese figure and green flowers, an openwork braided rim and a twisted foot.
